When Details matter

So I got up the other morning and learned a valuable lesson that I thought I would pass along.

Just because it looks like milk, doesn't mean it is milk.

Wild Man wanted cereal for breakfast and being the ever loving and joyous person I am at 5:45 in the morning, I leaped over to the pantry to get my good son his breakfast.

Yeah right, I believe I asked him when he thinks he will be old enough to get his own cereal so momma can sleep or something.

Wild Man replied "You're so silly mom...now please get me some cereal."

I drug my body over to the pantry to get the cereal. Opened the fridge to realize that we were out of his milk.
*Side not here--Due to Wild Man becoming more like insane man when drinking
milk. He now drinks Almond milk.*

So I went to the pantry to just check to see if I bought an extra box of Almond milk.

And lo and behold there sat one!

I patted myself on the back and told myself how wonderful I was for planning ahead.

Poured my sweet boy some milk in his cereal and then promptly collapsed on the couch.

A second later Wild Man came to me to turn on the TV and said something about the cereal being yucky.

Whatever it was too early to care that my 4 year old's taste buds were being fidgety.

*Now fast forward to after dinner.

Mr. Genius opened the fridge. "Wow I didn't know they made free range, grass fed, organic chicken broth. Where did you get it?"

Me: "Huh?"

Mr. Genius: "See?"

Me:" HOLY CRUD!!! I thought that was almond milk!"

Yes, people I fed my son chicken broth for breakfast.

Yum.

But to prove that I do have a little bit of sanity, I want to show you how close in resemblance they look.

I give you exhibit A (This is the angle I saw in the pantry)

See? See?

and exhibit B

So in true American spirit...I blame Pacific Natural foods.

I mean really could they not spring out a little extra money to find someone to design the boxes a little more different.

Geez.

  1. I just had to laugh. Just the life of a busy mom. I would have just grabbed and opened it to without thinking otherwise.

  2. Bless your heart and their design team should have to drink cereal that way.

  3. Oh my goodness - I laughed so hard I snorted. My family just turned around to see what was the matter with me haha. I agree - the company should really shell out a few packaging bucks and change up those boxes!
Thanks so much for the story. And we've all been there :)

  9. I enjoyed a laugh out loud moment on this one! Thank you! I'm all smiles! This is so something I would do. Just the other day I thought I was all set to make spaghetti when I pulled out what I thought was a big jar of Spaghetti sauce from the pantry only to see it was a big jar of Salsa! Luckily my sons are old enough to run to the store at the last minute for me. Love your post! Thanks for the smiles!

  11. Honey, maybe it's time for glasses. You've strained these beautiful eyes with all your projects! jk....easy mistake. Just for the record, when I come to visit I prefer milk on my cereal!

  12. That's hilarious! I love that story! my friend poured orange juice in her coffee the other day because it was in a white carton in her fridge and she thought it was milk!

  18. Katie,
I just wanted to comment on the comment you made on my my blog. Although the Indiana Design Center is lovely, don't make a road trip just yet. It is still mostly empty and just has a few tenants at this point. I would go to the Chicago Mercandise Mart for now to oooh and aahhh!

  25. Oh my goodness. Just found you're blog and am laughing like crazy about the milk vs chix broth. That is so something I would do at 5:45am when my boys get up.. I love your blog, and deco and will so be coming back. Thanks for making me laugh..

  26. At least it was chicken broth and not Clorox! My hubby's brother gave him Clorox in his bottle when he was a baby cuz he said it was in a container that looked like milk. I don't know; in my house we keep bleach in the laundry room, not the fridge! LOL! He got upset cuz my hubby kept spitting it out, then went to smell it and realized what it was! Yuck! I'm sure his parents never let him watch the babies anymore!

  27. Those do look amazingly alike - I'd have made the same mistake!

  28. Ok THAT is funny. I can't wait to make silly mistakes like this!

  29. omg! That's too funny and crazy! Your poor son! I don't blame you one bit for the mix up - those two cartons look exactly alike! I think Pacific is sticking a little too close to their brand. They really should mix up the colors a bit!

Congrats on your SITS day! Hope you have a great weekend!

  30. Oh yes, I can totally see that happening! They look way too much alike.

I'm a fellow mom of boys, so I'm glad SITS featured you so I could find you!

    Enjoy your day!

  31. LOL! That is totally Pacific Natural's fault!

Stopping by from SITS... enjoy your day in the spotlight :)

  32. Funny! I don't dare tell some of the crazy mom things I've done. You're a brave soul!

Here from SITS. Grats on your day as the FB!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Brutal! You think they'd differentiate the packaging a bit more.

On a different note, I try not to drink milk either, but have never tried the pacific natural foods almond milk. How does it taste?

    Happy SITS Day! :)

  34. HAHAHAHA I laughed so hard at this!
    Happy SITS Day!

  35. Whoah! Poor little guy! Note to Pacific Natural Foods -- do something more to diferentiate your packaging -- Sheesh!

    ReplyDelete
  36. that is so great!!! stopping by from sits, congrats on your day!

  37. Wow, they DO look alike! How weird! Really, the same color box too. No wonder you mixed them up, all bleary-eyed. Happy SITS Day!

    ReplyDelete
  38. HAH!!!! I almost did that the other day! We are an almond milk family too! As well as broth in a carton. Your poor wild man! ;) I've definitely done similar things! You're not alone! =)

  39. Stopping by from SITS. I can't even imagine what that tasted like! But, the boxes do look very similar...especially in the wee hours of the morning.

  40. Lol. Was laughing so loud after I read this then started back up in spurts. My hubby who's sitting next to me watching tv looked at me as if I were losing my mind! As a mother of five, I know all too well how things like this can happen. :)
