Just in case there is anyone else out there that thought is would be a great idea to buy the bag of jalapenos at Aldi's this weekend, because they were on clearance for 99 cents.
Someone might think that buying a bag of peppers while on clearance is a great way to stretch your dollar.
But now I would say that is hazardous to your health.
Don't believe me?
Well this is what happened to me over a 12 hour period.
I cut up the bag of peppers put them in individual bags and stuck them in the freezer.
One would think that washing your hands twice really good would help to get the spicy part of the peppers off of your hands.
But I would beg to differ.
An hour after washing my hands I scratched my eye.
And HOLY FIREBALLS, BATMAN!!
My eye felt like I had little men with blow torches on my eyelids!
I had no idea what to do.
I put water on it.
The burning just got worse.
So Mr. Genius, being the genius he is googled "jalapeno in eye".
Seriously, what did people do before Google??
Just in case anyone else is in my little perdicament I will share with you what you would do in this situation.
Get a shot glass full of milk and place it on your eye.
Since we do not live in a frat house, we do not have any shot glasses.
So the boys little medicine cup worked instead.
It took about 10 minutes for the burning to stop, but it did finally subside.
THANK YOU JESUS!
I washed my hands again and again and again and then made very sure I didn't get my hands anywhere near my eyes.
Apparently in the middle of the night I have no control over my hands, I woke up to burning eye balls.
I blindly walked down to the fridge.
Just incase anyone else is in my situation, and you accendently grab the almond milk.
No worries. It works too.
Ahhh. Relief again.
So I again washed my hands, dug under my nails, washed my elbows.
Hey, at this point I was desperate.
Finally I went back to sleep, tying my hands down.
Then came time to take a shower.
And you guess it. I got my eyes burning again.
I took my shower completely with my eyes closed.
I think that by this time, my body was immuned to the burning.
By the time I got out of the shower, I was fine.
Apparently the shower got rid off the rest of the jalapeno juices.

Holy Moly peeps! I think those were the stongest jalapenos ever to grow on this earth!
Have any of you had this happen to you?
I am definitely going to think twice before buying a hot pepper now.
This. Yes, this is why I do not buy hot peppers! lol Sorry for laughing but the way you wrote this, too darn funny and I needed a laugh tonight! Thanks for the warning!

First...after 12 months of depressing negative pregnancy tests....a positive would definitely NOT scare me :) I think I would paint a giant plus sign on my abdomen and run out to the streets naked and screaming for joy.
ReplyDeleteAnyway...for some reason when you said you googled this I thought...I wonder if you would put milk in your eye? I know you drink it if you eat something hot but I had no idea it was eye friendly. Thanks for sharing! I HATE anything labeled "hot" so hopefully I won't have this problem.
Miss yall!!!!
I keep a box of medical gloves under my sink for when I am working with peppers. Those pepper juices are so hard to get washed off! I am glad you are better now!
ReplyDeleteOh, my! That sounds decidedly unpleasant. Glad you got it off, though.
ReplyDeleteNote to self: never buy jalepenos from Aldi.
Oh no! I learned my lesson last summer. I completely burned my cuticles and under my fingernails with jalapenos from my garden! I didn't get them washed in time and ended up with a chemical burn which was NOT healed by milk (trust me, I tried.) And the whole time I was thinking about the contacts in my eyes. But luckily, the oil was gone from my fingers by the time I took out my contacts, my hands just hurt because I actually had burned them. Yikes!
ReplyDelete"Since we do not live in a frat house..." HAHAHAHA!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that's over for you.
I know you were in pain 'cause I've been there, but you account of the story almost made me pee my pants. OK, I am going to stop laughing now.

~~~This same thing happened to me when I was only 4 years old!!~~~
ReplyDeleteMy great grandmother grew jalapenos in her yard, and I picked one, bit it- spit it out, cried because my tongue was on fire, running to her, wiping the tears from my eyes I got jalapeno juice in my eyes!!
That was one long day, I cried all day, and it felt like a film was on my eyes--and I can remember it like it was yesterday.
I don't think we used milk (Almond, or otherwise).
I'm sorry this happened to you!
Sometimes a sale isn't worth it, is it?
Better today, I hope?
Oh my, see I knew there was a reason I never make my own salsa! :)
ReplyDeleteI've got a little something for you on my blog...stop by if you get a chance.
Yikes! I've always been a little leary about putting those hot green things in my salsa, but now you've given me a reason to avoid them. Somehow your recount is more comical than it could possibly have been. I'm feeling for you!
ReplyDeleteOh my, you made me laugh...but I can relate. I like a little spice in my salsa so I definitely use jalapenos, however I am WAY sensitive to them during prep. My fingers kind of burn and, don't laugh, I actually cough when they're cut. It's like the spice gets in the air? My hubby doesn't have this reaction and I've often resorted to drastic measures (making him use a knife!) so that I don't pass out while making salsa. Ha! Also, touched my eye and so did he. He had to throw out his contacts. Rough stuff...but yummo stuff. ;)
ReplyDeleteOuch. Anytime I have ever bought Jalapenos I have made my husband clean and chop them. I am no fool.
ReplyDeleteOh man, this post had me CRACKING up! It's NOT funny that your poor eye had to take all of that jalapeno abuse, I'm sorry for laughing. It's just the way you retold the story was hilarious. :-) I especially loved the part of the story where you used the boys' "little medicine cup" in place of a shot glass. Too funny.
ReplyDeleteOh, how funny! I usually wrap my hands in plastic bags and deal with the peppers that way.
ReplyDeleteNever happened to me before and I'll make darn sure never to buy clearance jalapenos just in case. Sounds awful!
