Unfortunately with this project I do not have a before picture.
I started these cabinets preblogging my projects seriously.
Do you forgive me?
I can describe them for you.
Picture some tall cabinets that are about 30 to 40 years old and that have been in a garage for about 30-40 years and possibly the last 10 years they haven't been touched.
All the ooze and dust and spider webs you would want in them.
But picture $35 for 2 of them!!!
Then you can look past the nastiness and see them painted white with crown molding to top!
Now remember that you are the only one that can see this vision and everyone at the house sale including your husband thinks you are crazy for even wanting these in your house.
Here is a picture of one of them with already 4 coats of white on it.
See how tall they are! That is why I loved them.
We have tall ceiling on our main floor and it would look funny with just little cabinets.
Here is our laundry room before we moved in.
Sorry Mr. Genius was more focused on the fact that there is a utility sink then the high ceiling.
This is what our laundry room looked like after having 12 people stay in our house for a week.
Just realized I still didn't show you a picture of the high ceiling.
Boy I am not being a good blogger today.
Maybe I will just go ahead and jump to the after picture.
You like?
You can see that one of the doors is cracked open.
I want to show you what I did to the inside of the cabinets.
Because they were completely disgusting. I couldn't get all the stuff off. When it was painted white you could see where the sides weren't completely smooth.
As you can see form the picture. I painted the inside of them blue for something a little unexpected and to hide all the imperfections.
Then once I painted them I modge podged the shelves with wrapping paper.
I really do wish I took a before picture so you can really appreciate the after picture.
Oh yeah I almost forgot.
I also spray painted the back part of the knobs.
Also remember this light fixture?
I painted that too.
Nothing is safe when I have a can of spray paint in my hand!
Then I took the top doors off.
Why?
Cuz still after 8 coats of paint the cabinets were still not the same color as the molding on top. A little frusterating to say the least.
Yes I was painting with the same paint. I do not understand why it was doing that.
So I took the doors off and went to the dollar store and got the turquoise tubs.
Speaking of laundry does anyone know how to get a dry erase marker out of a sweater vest?
Ah the joys of motherhood.
Hope you had a great weekend!
I am linking to these parties.
Wow, wow and wow! I love this...love the cabinets, love the chandy, love the shelf paper, love the color...love it all!

ReplyDeleteWhat a transformation! Great job! I especially love that you modge podged wrapping paper on the shelves. I am definitely trying that!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your laundry room! Great job. While you are in town, I may be asking you for some ideas on Eli's room. He has a huge wall with nothing on it and I'd like to put something on it that goes with his alphabet theme.
ReplyDeleteYour laundry room is fabulous! It must be such a joy to go in there now.
ReplyDeleteThat was a lot of work! Well worth it tough!

ReplyDeleteLove the color pallet! I have used giftwrap to line the drawers of a dresser, I know what a great impact it is! Great job!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous new laundry room! I love the organization and utter colorful beauty of it. Can't wait until my laundry space is that organized. I can barely open the door in my tiny laundry closet sometimes...
ReplyDeleteI love, love, love the colors! I'm always so jealous of people like you who can instantly spot the potential in what the rest of us see as "junk." Way to go! Following from Made the World Cuter! :)

ReplyDeleteThere is nothing I don't love about your redo! Your cabinets came out great and the colors you used, including the wrapping paper, are inspired. LOVE the combo of the teal bins and the blue paint. Love the chandy and the curtains. Most excellent.

WONDERFUL TRANSITION! ALmost makes me want to do laundry!
ReplyDeleteOMG! this is SO pretty! LOVE all the color! I was wondering how you got the paper to stay on the shelves... Mod Podge is a great idea! I've tried and tried to get contact paper to stick to our shelves and they just pop right off. This would be MUCH better. Thanks for the idea!
ReplyDeletewow, this room turned out awesome. all the little details make it super fantastic :)
ReplyDeleteBeeee-youtifully done! I've seen your thumbnail on a few blogs, and I finally made the hop over. What a wonderfully imaginative transformation!

I am green with envy!!! It's gorgeous! Try to find Whink for the stain. There's a whink that's a rust remover and one that's for laundry, but they are usually together at the store. Use a toothbrush to scrub it in. It's awesome on grease too! Also you could try scrubbing it with a paste of murphy's oil soap & oxi clean.
ReplyDeleteWow, that's a LOT of elbow grease...with a fabulous reward. So cute and colorful, almost enough to make laundry fun, haha!
ReplyDeleteIt looks great and I love the light fixture...big time! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for joining us for I Made It!

I think each of my closets have a Pop of color inside.. some may be a bit over the top but it makes for interesting when you go inside for something.. I love what you did!!
ReplyDeleteAnd the 'light fixture' is simply beautiful!
Nice Job
Sandy
Nice job on the cabinets! The bit of blue at the top is so cute. I love the light fixture!! For the dry erase marker, have you tried a bleach pen? It works wonders on spots like that.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great transformation, I love it and I love the blue containers on top!
ReplyDeleteI love the added color inside!
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking with Sugar & Spice.
That is absolutley stunning! If my laundry room looked like that, I just might could palate doing laundry!

Wow,now that is a lot of laundry and a lot of people visiting! And what a cutie helper you have. Great job on the cabinet and chandelier. I am glad you couldn't match the paint of the molding to the cabinet, I think it looks so much better with the doors off and the added tubs. No great ideas about the pen mark though...my kids are grown and I have forgotten all those handy dandy tips.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great job you did with this laundry room. You should be so proud. It is spectacular.
