It's Mr. Genius' Day!

Today is Mr. Genius' birthday!

Sorry this Easter picture is the most recent one I have of him.

Mr. Genius has been my partner, friend and, especially lately my shoulder to cry on.

Mr. Genius is a hard worker, spiritual leader, a great friend, and... persistent.

I really mean that in the most loving way.

Because if it wasn't for his persistence we would not be together right now.

----

I first met Mr. Genius while in college at church, and his name wasn't Mr. Genius it was Mr. Blue Eyes. ;)

You can't really see them past his glasses but he has great blue eyes.

This was the first thing I noticed about him... and his smile. He just seemed like a genuine great guy to me.

So I made sure that I met him. We talked, we flirted, we had a great time.

Then I found out something horrible.

He was a ....are you ready for this....a freshman.. Ugh!

You see, I was a Junior...and apparently also a snob.

I do recall telling people that "I do not date younger guys."

But I didn't realize that Mr. Genius/Blue Eye main attribute was persistence and he then had his cute blue eyes set on me.

He walked up to me to ask for my phone number.

Do you know what I did?

I completely ignored him and turned my back to him to talk to someone else.

See! A snob.

Then the next week at church, he came up and tried again.

He asked me for my phone number and again I turned my back to him and started talking to someone else.

Then the next week at church. Mr. Genius/Blue eyes got a little smarter.

While I was talking to a couple of people, he asked loud enough for others to hear.

"Are you in the phonebook?"

You know that was back in the day when people actually used the phonebook.

I was stuck, people were looking at me and I just answered with a simple yes.

A couple of days later he called to ask me out.

I just thought, why not we have a good time talking together...when I am not ignoring him. So I said Yes.

Then on February 13, 1999. We went on our first day and I felt completely at home with him.

I looked past his persistence and he looked past my snobbiness.

The rest is history.

Happy Birthday honey!

Soooo sweet! That is the EXACT same way my husband and I met too, I'm not even joking. The only difference was we were still in high school. I was a sophomore and he was a junior, but totally not my "type" of guy. He wouldn't leave me alone either! He finally got my number from a friend, kept calling until I answered one day, and the rest was history for us, too. Thank God for his persistence, as well. I don't know what I would do without him :-). Happy birthday Mr. Genius!

I hadn't heard that story before, Katie! Too funny! Glad I didn't know you when you were a snob..haha..just kidding.

Happy Birthday to Mr. Genius. It is so hard for me to not call you people by your real names! At least you still call yourself Katie on here, that's easy.

That is such a great love story!

Mine is similar except I was the persistent one. And I'm SO glad I was. I have an amazing man who treats me like a queen, even to this very day, and we will celebrate our 20th anniversary this coming September!!

Three years ago, I was diagnosed with a very serious neurovascular illness that has left me disabled, homebound and bedridden. My husband has stepped up to take care of everything, with the help of our teenage daughters. But that is nothing new. Since the day we were married he has always helped with all the day-to-day chores - laundry, washing dishes, cooking, etc. He is also an amazing father who has always been involved with ALL of the childcare responsibilities AND made sure I had time to myself. (He even goes to buy our groceries and other household necessities - including feminine hygiene products for all 3 ladies in the house! :0) Who could ask for anything more?!? God truly blessed me with this wonderful man and I don't know what I would do without him! I pray I never have to find out.

Thanks for sharing about Mr. Genius. You are one blessed lady!
